Reece is always on the hunt for a great song, whether it be wringing out some lyrics during a bleary-eyed, late night writing session with Marianna Thielen for their band The Bylines, or dropping the needle on some vinyl and sitting at the piano to transcribe a little known Frank Loesser song to add to his own repertoire.  His taste in songs isn't limited to any time period, loving Faure chanson just as much as Randy Newman's satires of modern life. He seeks out songs whose lyrics are cleverly crafted like a Cole Porter double entendre piece, as well as devilishly, deceptively simple three chord Willie Nelson everyman truisms.

It is that interplay of lyric, melody, and harmony that keep Reece writing and hunting.

Reece has a Jazz Studies degree from Western Washington University where he studied with bassist and arranger Chuck Israels.  Musical highlights include accompanying John Raitt and Storm Large, performing in the 2023 Ten Grands concert at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, acting as musical director of the Tony Starlight Show for seven years, arranging for Oregon Ballet Theatre and the Oregon Symphony, and attending the 2011 Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project with his wife and co-writer Marianna Thielen.  Their band, The Bylines, perform regularly throughout the PNW, stream regularly on Twitch, and has recorded three albums of original material and a holiday EP.

In 2022, he released a series of solo piano compositions, originally written for his Patreon community, titled Morning Music. One composition, Time Lapse, was selected by Spotify for their Instrumental Study playlist and has received almost 1M streams. These pieces have also been featured on All Classical Radio during their Happy Hour and Festival of Carols programming. He continues to write and record instrumental music.
